Teachers of Computing are familiar with assessing knowledge and understanding and problem solving, but how should experiences such as ‘working in a group’ be assessed? How should a pupil’s progression in learning be recorded? How can these records be turned into reports that ‘take into account the breadth, challenge and application of learning’ in terms of ‘developing’, ‘consolidating’ or ‘secure’ in a level?
This one day course will give Computing teachers the opportunity to discuss and compare their courses and approaches to meeting the Outcomes and Experiences set out for Computing threads within the Technology theme before moving on to the approaches that they intend to take for assessing and reporting.
Working in teams they will consider a range of possible assessment and recording techniques for the outcomes and experiences. Teams will then agree on and produce an assessment instrument and recording system for one of the experiences.
Alternatively, if the instruments of assessment are available through the National Assessment Resource then these may be considered and adapted as needed.
