Ian Geddes has been a Principal Teacher of Geography, Deputy Head Teacher and Open University lecturer, and has written several Geography books (including Aspects of Social Geography, Aspects of Urban Geography, How to Pass Higher Geography and most recently How to Pass Exams) Ian has been commissioned by SQA to write teaching and assessment materials for Intermediate, Higher and Advanced Higher Geography |
Paper 1 - Higher Geography

This is a one-day overview of Paper 1, Higher Geography course, suitable for teachers who are new to teaching this course as well as teachers seeking new ideas and insight into the SQA system.
During the day the following topics will be covered.
- A review of the structure and assessment demands of Paper 1 in Higher Geography
- An active workshop of SQA marking and examination standards in Paper 1
- Discussion of findings and comments from the Principle Assessor and marking team
- Preparation for NABs and external assessment
- Contemporary development of a Geographical theme/ topic
- Sharing techniques and ideas
- Improving student motivation
- Revision skills including reading and writing techniques for students
- Development of a teaching Unit
