Music: John Mabon has been a Principal Teacher of Music for over thirty years and latterly held the position of Faculty Head. During this time he has successfully presented candidates at all levels across the full range of instrumental and vocaloptions. He has experience as a Moderator at a national level and has extensive SQA experience gained throughout his teaching career. |

Teaching Standard Grade and Intermediate Music - NEW COURSE
Friday 18th May 2012 09.30 - 15.30 £159 plus VAT
This course is aimed at teachers planning a Standard Grade or Intermediate course. It will provide teachers with approaches covering the range of requirements for these levels as well as guidance on preparation for national examinations.
The day will include:
- Appropriate choice of levels/instruments for all learners
- Developing assessments throughout the year - Aifl
- Tracking and monitoring progress
- Developing Listening skills
- Approaches to Inventing/Composition
- Practical Performance including Drum Kit and Chordal Guitar
- Keeping internal records
- Internal assessment
- Use of ICT to support learning
- Preparation for external assessments and the next stage

Teaching Higher Music
Tuesday 29th May 2012 09.30 - 15.30 £159 plus VAT
This course is aimed at teachers who may be new to delivering Higher Music or teachers seeking new ideas and specialist support.
The day will include:
- Appropriate choice of instruments/course model for all learners
- Target setting throughout the year
- Tracking and monitoring progress
- Approaches to Listening skills
- Preparation for Practical Performance
- Approaches to Composition
- Internal assessment and retention of evidence, including NABs
- Use of ICT in the course
